Farewell Harry Potter

As most of you probably know the final installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be released on July 21st. I was excited and crushed to hear this news. I am an avid fan of the series and have read books 1-6 at least 2 times a piece. As much as I would like to know the fate of Harry Potter and the wizarding world I don’t know if I can actually read the book as soon as it comes out. Once I finish that book I am afraid I will lose something. Reading the Harry Potter series brings me back to my childhood when books like Elizabeth Winthrop’s, Castle In the Attic, had me turning pages so furiously I forgot about the world around me.
Books like those of the Harry Potter series, the ones that capture the imagination of children and adults alike, are few and far between. Through these books I have been able to have deep discussions with my wife on different moral and philosophical points the books touch upon and at the same time discuss topics important to an adolescent with my daughter. Harry Potter has not only brought me hours of enjoyment through reading and watching the movies, it has also been a springboard for quality family time, parent-child relations, and most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to use my imagination in ways that have not be accessed since childhood.
Farewell Harry Potter, you will sorely missed.
