Supertramp Flashback!

I was listening to a song that I thought was “new” today called “Cupid’s Chokehold” by the Gym Class Heroes. It sounded eriely familiar and then it hit me (thanks to a friend). FLASHBACK!
The memory took me back to my childhood - to rainy days when I would look through my dad’s record collection just to see what he listend to when he was my age. I remember Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Queen and various others. One album in particular used to stick out in my mind and I smiled every time I came across it. I think it was a combination of the band’s name coupled with the album title. It was Supertramp: Breakfast in America. The silly-ass looking waitress on the cover was an image that has never left my mind. I also though tramp was a funny word when I was 10.
Back to reality. As I came to realize, the “new” song I was listening was a remake of an old Supertramp song (remake in a very loose sense). I think I prefer the new version, but that’s probably due to my taste in music. It makes me feel old when I can remember hearing Supertramp when I was a kid (and I’m not old)!
I wanted to share my favorite verse (from the new version):
” We even got a secret handshake
and she loves the music that my band makes.
I know I’m young but if i had to choose her or the sun
I’d be one nocturnal son of a gun.”
It’s funny how memories can be triggered. It has to be at least 15 years since I have heard a Supertramp song. The mind works in mysterious ways.
