BitPim - Ever Heard of It?

If you have a cell phone - and I assume most people who would be reading this do - BitPim is something your computer should not be without.

What the hell is BitPim?

BitPim allows you to view and edit nearly everything on your cell phone.

Tired of using your scrawny keypad to enter contacts? Use BitPim. Want a backup of your contact list and text messages? Use BitPim. You get the idea — the sky is the limit.

Personally, I have an LG Chocolate. BitPim makes this great phone and excellent phone. My Chocolate contains my life; phone numbers, e-mail addresses, calendar events, and lots of my music. If I lost my cell phone I would be irrevocably lost; I wouldn’t even know my parents cell phone numbers.

Using BitPim is easy. I connect via Blue-tooth, but you can just as easily connect via USB or serial cable (if your phone is from the stone age.) It will auto-detect the type of phone you have and enable only the options your phone can use. One of my favorite features is the ability to create your own ring-tones. No more paying to download them. Just take your favorite MP3, load it into the editor, and you can pick the specific part of the song (or all of it) you want to use as your ring-tone. BitPim also makes the calendar function in your cell phone easy and convenient to use. Never forget a birthday, anniversary, or appointment again. Just enter your important dates or import them from your favorite calendar program, then upload them to your phone. You can set your reminders for times you prefer to be notified; days, hours, or minutes in advance.

Interested yet? Go to BitPim.org and download the software. It’s free under the GNU public license and you can use it on Linux, Mac, or Windows.

Let me know how BitPim makes your life better. Enjoy!
