Run With It
I was exposed to computers early - both in terms of my chronological age and in terms of the personal computing revolution. I think I first touched a computer in 1986 and started using one daily in 1988. It began when my dad bought a computer for the “family” as a Christmas gift (we all knew it was really for him, he loved new gadgets). What my dad didn’t know at the time is that he had purchased my future. He told me not to touch it because it was very expensive. My dad worked a lot so I said “screw that” and dove into DOS, simple programming, and bulletin board services (the only form of internet really available at that time). Two weeks after my dad bought the computer (and still to this day) he asks me how to use it. I knew the day I first laid eyes on that beige box full of transistors - with it’s 40MB HDD, and 512K of RAM and its blazing 8Mhz 286 Intel processor - that my future lie within.
My computers have gotten smaller - 512K won’t even boot a computer - and my processor has jumped from 8Mhz to several gigahertz. My desire to use them has never faltered. I studied their languages, their software and their connectivity in college and have worked in the field in some form or another since I was 18. I never plan to stop.
This site has become a platform for so many things. I have met so many great people during my blogging adventure. I have embarked on new ventures with a couple of people who have become trustworthy friends and ideas have started to flow in a way I never thought possible. This part of my life is still in its infancy. I can’t wait to see where else it takes me. Thanks to everyone who has reached out their hand to help me with this venture and those who have become partners along the way - you are much appreciated. I see no signs of stopping this site, nor the 100 other things I have going on in my head. I love my life. I’m going to keep running with it — I just hope I can keep up.
